FARM'S STORY

Ohia Lani Gardens, owned and operated by Katie Romanchak, is a six-acre farm nestled in upper Haiku, celebrating nearly two decades of dedication to ecological restoration. Katie’s vision weaves together native Hawaiian species—like a‘ali‘i, ʻōhiʻa lehua, and kamani—alongside an array of edible crops, from citrus to starfruit, and ground covers like Okinawan and longevity spinach. Over the last 20 years, Katie has carefully restored native habitats, and today, native birds, insects, and bats are returning to the area thanks to her efforts. At the same time, she integrates edible ground covers like Okinawan and longevity spinach, offering both nutrition and natural soil protection. This blend of native restoration and food production is a model of harmony—where every bite of citrus, every native bloom, and every returning bird speaks to the power of restoration and renewal.
