Join Maui Farmer Support Network and Maui Nui Botanical Gardens for a hands-on workshop focused on restoring fire-affected areas in Lahaina through compost, mulch, and thoughtful planting practices.
The workshop will focus on affordable, accessible ways to build healthy soil, retain moisture, and support regeneration in fire-affected areas.
Participants will learn:
Why healthy soil matters — exploring the connections between composting, sheet mulching, fire prevention, climate resilience, and land restoration
Urban composting basics — simple ways to compost food scraps and green waste at home, even with limited space
Sheet mulching — how this simple practice can protect and improve soil, conserve moisture, and reduce weeds, with a demonstration of how to get started
